CWN - The Chaldean Catholic Patriarchate has issued a statement denouncing the “rebellion” of Bishop Sarhad Jammo, the head of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego, and of Bishop Bawai Soro, a bishop of the Assyrian Church of the East who was received into full communion with the Catholic Church and now ministers in the eparchy.
The eparchy (Eastern Catholic diocese) ministers to Chaldean Catholics in the western United States.
Referring to Chaldean priests who left Iraq without permission from their superiors, the patriarchate said that the eparchy “welcomed rebel priests against ecclesiastical laws” and refused to implement decisions made by a recent synod of the Chaldean Catholic Church.

“Every day in the Middle East, we are witnesses of tragic events that make us even contemporaries of Calvary,” he preached. “But our joy and our faith in the Risen Lord ‘no one will take away’ (Jn 16:22), because the Lord invites us today, even in the midst of difficulties that are ours, to taste the first fruits of the Resurrection.”
“Contemporary martyrs continue to bear witness to the Resurrection of Christ,” he added. “Processions, the stones of Jerusalem, Iraqi and Syrian refugees who have lost everything for their faith, and prisoners in the name of Christ, are signs that our Lord is alive.”

SHENANDOAH, PA — The tradition in Byzantine Catholic churches of offering healing prayer and anointing was held Wednesday at St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church in the borough.
The administering of the Sacrament or Mystery of Holy Unction was conducted during the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts by the celebrant and pastor, Monsignor Myron Grabowsky.
The two-hour liturgy was attended by more than 40 people, most of whom sought healing. The anointing with oil is a custom on Holy Wednesday, the day before Holy Thursday during Holy Week.
