Kyiv – Bishop Bohdan Dziurakh, secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), said that the synod is asking for suggestions from the laity regarding themes for the synod to discuss. ugcc.org.ua posted the news on 10 May 2007.
Bishop Dziurakh stressed the importance of involving the laity in church life, when commenting on the preparation for the annual Patriarchal Synod of Bishops of the UGCC. In particular, he noted: “Bishops and priests are called to teach the faithful the word of God. But it is no less important that the laity have a ‘podium’ in the church where they can express their opinion about various aspects of church life.” This year’s synod is to take place in Philadelphia (USA).
