CWN - The Holy See Press Office has announced the schedule of Pope Francis’s impending visit to the Greek island of Lesbos.
The April 16 visit will last for only six hours. After arriving at the airport in Mytilene, the Pope will meet privately with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras before traveling by bus to a refugee camp with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and Greek Orthodox Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens.
The three prelates will meet with refugees and deliver brief speeches before signing a joint declaration. Pope Francis will then depart from the refugee camp to meet with local residents and the local Catholic community.
Returning to the airport, Pope Francis will meet privately with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Ieronymos and have a second private meeting with the prime minister before leaving for Rome.
