CWN - As Egypt prepares for parliamentary elections, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, to which most of the nation’s Christians belong, emphasized that the “Coptic Church does not offer direct and personal support to any candidate,” according to the Fides news agency.
“The Coptic Church is a reality of spiritual nature that serves the entire Egyptian society, without exception, and carries out that service without claiming direct political roles, but merely exercising its ecclesial mission,” Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria stated, according to a Fides paraphrase of his remarks.
