Kyiv-Washington – The work sessions of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) were finished in Doylestown (Pennsylvania) on 4 October 2007. The official closing ceremony of the Holy Synod was held in Washington, where the Greek Catholic eparches arrived to take part in the ceremony of awarding Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar), head of the UGCC, Doctor’s Degree of the American Catholic University.

According to ugcc.org.ua, the closing of the Synod was marked by the Hierarchal Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Family in Washington on 5 October 2007.

In his speech Patriarch Lubomyr thanked all laymen for the spiritual and prayerful support for the Synod and called upon the faithful to think about priorities in life, stressing that Jesus Christ is the true source of grace. As to the hierarchal meeting of the UGC, Patriarch Lubomyr underlined that the aim of the Synod is “to help the hierarchs that were delegated to lead the Church so that they could learn God’s will through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit for the people entrusted to them. And in fact, this activity is impossible without prayer.”

The Greek Catholic hierarchs visited the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception, the seventh biggest in the world. Later, at the Holy Family Church, a joint prayer was offered together with the participation of the representatives of civic organizations, church parishioners, journalists and seminarians of St. Joseph’s Seminary in Washington.

Later that day the head of the UGCC and the hierarchs attended a press conference.
