Theophany of Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ

January 6, 2025

Feast of the Theophany of Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ

Then Jesus comes from Galilee to the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him. But John was hindering Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and yet You come to me?” But Jesus answered and said to him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him. And Jesus, having been baptized, immediately came up out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him. And behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I was well pleased.” (Matthew 3:13-17)

Christ is Baptized! Glorify Him!

Baptism of Christ

When You were baptized in the Jordan, O Lord, * worship of the Trinity was revealed, * for the Father's voice bore witness to You, calling You His “beloved Son”, * and the Spirit in the form of a dove confirmed the certainty of these words. * O Christ God, * Who appeared and enlightened the world, glory to You! (Troparion)

Teachings of Christ the Savior

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God." (John 3:16-18 ESV)

Truth to Live By

"Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching." (Proverbs 4:1,2 ESV)
